SKF India celebrates 10 years of participation in Gothia cup with an extension of its Sports Education Program

Pune, July 12, 2018: On the 10th Anniversary of its participation in the Gothia Cup, SKF India launched anextension of its SKF Sports Program for four schools in the PCMC area  today. This program; christened SKF Sports Education Program for Schools, was launched by Mr. Carl Orstadius, MD SKF India, Mr. Nitin Kalje,PCMC Mayor and Mr. Shravan Hardikar (I.A.S) PCMC Municipal Commissioner.

The SKF Sports Program for Schools, SKF Community Care umbrella, aims for physical and mental development of children through the powerful medium of sports. Thisprogram will help develop students into professional players at district, state and national levels. The goal is to provide ample opportunities in sports to children who may not necessarily have the avenues, to foster healthy growth, and to provide an inclusive education.

Around 80 talented boys and girls will be selected from four Pune Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Schools from in an around SKF Facility at Chinchwad. These children will be offered professional coaching in football two times a week, at the campus of the schools they attend. The academic year which begins in July 2018 will continue till May 2023 enabling children from Grade 2 to be trained and coached till they are in Grade 10.

Our implementation partner, Just for Kicks (JFK), will conduct regular training sessions at the chosen schools and  their trained coaches will conduct the training in the most professional manner.  A total of 48 training sessions will be conducted at each school with the chosen students.JFK will also appoint a Program Manager who will monitor the effectiveness of these programs, conduct assessments, and provide detailed reports to the SKF India CSR team. The implementation partner will also look for opportunities for the students to participate in otherleagues organized by Just for kick.

Under its Community Care initiative, SKF India will provide funding to Just for Kicks to implement the program in schools. Furthermore, as the year advances, deserving students will be selected based on their performance and talent to train at SKF Sports Academy in Chinchwad Pune. These children will also get a chance to represent their team at school level matches and may also represent their team at the Gothia Cup Tournament.

SKF Sports Education Program today also announced its teams for this year’s Gothia Cup Tournament. Two teams of seventeen boys and twelve girls will represent India at the Gothia Cup this year. These teams have trained hard all through the year and are a mix of students from Pune and Ahemadabad. This year marks the tenth anniversary of SKF India’s participation in the Gothia Cup through its Community Care initiative.

Mr. Carl Orstadius, MD SKF India, stated, “SKF Sports Programs are all designed to build on individual strengths in sports and enhance them through formal training and social skills augmentation. We believe in creating sustainable programs for the community which in turn gives back to the community. Here we teach valuable lessons to children through sports like working together, working in teams and the importance of individuals in team dynamics. These programs also kindle passion amongst  children and steers them out of trouble. On this tenth anniversary of our participation I wish the teams the very best for their performance.
