The city of Delhi is all set for the launch of SBK Green Delhi Drive. This drive is being undertaken by a startup – Sabakuch.com – in the form of Adopt A Tree campaign.

The campaign will begin on July 5, 2018, from 3:30 pm onwards in the Connaught Place area. Shri K.P. Singh, Director (Horticulture) at NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Council) will be present as the Chief Guest. The launch of this 45-day campaign will initiate outside Gate number 2 of Rajiv Chowk Metro Station in Connaught Place.

A certain section of roadside has been selected where the honorary guest will adopt a tree and subsequently other participants and citizens of Delhi shall take a pledge to adopt a tree and take care of it.

At the kick-off ceremony, volunteers wearing a campaign t-shirt will help anyone interested in adopting a tree. The citizens will also be distributed pamphlets to create awareness about this drive. The volunteers shall also answer any concerns of the crowd. The company will also broadcast the event live on Facebook and updates shall be made available on Twitter and Instagram as well.

For the next 45 days, the adopt a tree campaign will engage in online and offline activities like creating awareness through social media, putting sunpack sheets (large banners) in several areas of Delhi, distributing handbills containing interesting facts regarding the importance of trees.

‘’Trees are extremely important for the existence of humans. Two trees together can provide oxygen equivalent to 260 lbs and soak in nearly 3 kilos of carbon-dioxide from out atmosphere, and that means oxygen for a family of four people in one year. As of 2017, Delhi’s green cover or forest area has reduced to 13%. Moreover, the capital of this country is now the most polluted city as per WHO reports. There is a dire need to plant more trees and save the existing one, otherwise our children will run out of oxygen in the near future,’’ said, Mr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Founder, Sabakuch India LLP.

‘’Adopting a tree is similar to a pledge that we will take to protect, nurture, and preserve the trees around us. Therefore, we seek support of everyone including citizens, corporates, NGOs, media, and politicians to come and join us in this Green Delhi Drive initiative and help make it successful,’’ he further added.

This campaign comes at a relevant time when active cutting of trees in Delhi for re-development purposes has irked many citizens who are now coming on streets to protect the natural eco-system.
