Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC) & LPU sign MoU to work on Satellite Technology

· Ground Station for receiving satellite signals will also get set at LPU by December 2018





A Government of Punjab Enterprise- ‘Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC)’ and Lovely Professional University (LPU) have joined hands for institutional co-operation. In this context, both institutions have signed an MoU at LPU. The purpose here is to collaborate and share resources for academics and research in the area of geo-spatial technologies. Both LPU and PRSC will also explore the feasibility of launching Satellite-Payload for societal applications in future. On these lines, a ground station for receiving satellite signals will also be set at LPU by December 2018.

Director PRSC Dr Brijendra Pateriya and LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal held detailed discussions after which an MoU on Institutional co-operational agreement was signed between both the institutions. The collaboration is based on mutual interests, which will lead to benefit the society at large. In this context, the expertise of both LPU and PRSC will be used for various projects to be undertaken.

Appreciating the result-oriented research and development works being done at LPU, Director PRSC Dr Pateriya shared that this collaboration was direly required for the society needed research works. Expressing happiness over the tie-up, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “We feel happy that government sector has come forward for such an important collaboration with private sector by recognizing its potentiality and power. Both PRSC and LPU scientists will work together on satellite technology, hi-tech research projects, geospatial technologies and training programmes.”

Highlighting, LPU will also start academic courses leading to provide PhD and other permissible courses in Geospatial Technology by competent accrediting body, as may be applicable. The signing ceremony was also witnessed by PRSC Scientists Dr R K Setia, Ms Reenu Sharma, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal and many other scientists, deans and heads from both PRSC and LPU.

In fact, PRSC is an autonomous organization under the Department of Agriculture, Government of Punjab. It is an apex body in the state for all Remote Sensing (RS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) related works. It is designated as a Nodal Agency by the Govt. of Punjab for geospatial needs of the State.
