The Rs. 142 Crore flyover construction project in Thiruvananthapuram, which is expected to provide hassle-free connectivity to the nearest airport, has finally begun. This project, which is 1.6 Km long four-lane highway will connect the airport to the Chakka-Eenchakkal corridor, could make navigation to the airport easier.

This project has been awarded to the National Highways Authority of India for promoting connectivity and decrease in the amount of hassle. The course of this flyover is going to stretch from the Railway Overbridge at Chakka to the Kingsway Hotel located along the bypass. The flyover is expected to have a width of 19.6 m with a 430-meter ramp.

The work on his flyover has finally begun successfully and the Hyderabad based KNR Constructions is the one who has been entrusted with this four-lane flyover project stretching over a length of 26.7 km from Kazhakuttam to Mukkola. This specific flyover will comprise of the service road along with piers 25m apart from each other.

NHAI has explained a well-planned navigation through the flyover along with the ROB. As per their guidelines, motorists who primarily commute using the bypass from Kazhakuttam to Enchakkal and beyond that can avail the ROB and the flyover. On the other hand, the commuters proceeding towards the T-II terminal can exit through the four-lane highway without any hassle and then take a right turn from the roundabout in front of the Kingsway Hotel and proceed to enter the airport along the mentioned path.

The ongoing construction was assigned with a 24-months deadline that expired in the month of November last year. This Rs. 623.41 crore project was put to a halt because of the issues encircling the airport connectivity and the cost sharing of the flyover. The disputes were then gradually resolved with the intervention made by NHAI, following which the project was again initiated and is currently in progress.
