Insightful, Knowledge Packed, Ted X Event By D.Y. Patil International School

The TEDX youth event organised by D.Y. Patil International School , Worli , had the students glued to their seats with rapt attention as four brilliant speakers and path breakers in their respective professions took centre stage. D. Y. Patil International School , Worli , is part of the reputed Ajeenkya D.Y. Patil Group. Expressing his thoughts on the occasion , Dr,Ajeenkya D. Y. Patil ,Chairman, stated " This event is one more step in our constant endeavour to raise the bar of excellence in education through innovative , path breathing ideas and activities. "

First up was Tarun Anand , Co founder of Universal Business School and former Treasury Head of Reuters. From being a door to door salesman in Mumbai to a true blue blooded corporate to social entrepreneurship in New York and Hong Kong ; his journey was a gripping story of passion , struggle , ambition and vision.

Rohan Joshi , writer and stand up of AIB ( All India Bakchod) fame waxed eloquent on how an artist literally starts from zero every single day and further stated that he has still not learned to cope with silence . " Money is great , but it cannot fill the hole in your soul" was a striking observation from the young comedian. He further dwelled at length on the viability of stand up comedy as a career option.

With nearly twenty years of experience and expertise and the ' Hospitality Achiever of the Year Award ' in his kitty , Romil Ratra of Bellona Hospitality , delivered an insightful address on the " Changing Face Of The Hospitality Industry" . He emphasised on how the look of the food has now become more important than the taste . He also drew the attention of the audience to the impact of social media on the Hospitality Industry and the rapid rise in numbers of food critics and food photographers .

Mayank Shekhar , Film Critic and author gave gripping insights into the fascinating world of Bollywood. He opined , " Bollywood is the most dominant pop culture in the world and not America ." He further elaborated that the east is marrying the west and cited the example of Akon who grew up singing hindi songs, despite not understanding the language and went on to become a pop star in North America and again came back to Mumbai. "In 2002 , Bollywood sold 3.6 billion tickets and Hollywood sold only 2.6 billion tickets " observed Mayank Shekhar. Telling statistics at a telling youth event .

The students were more than enlightened with ample food for thought.
