Theresa Beatty is a family/divorce mediator who's worked in the field for almost a decade now.

Prior to becoming a family mediator, she was a social worker at Georgia's Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse. Her background in social work translated quite well in the field of family/divorce mediation, where she's enjoyed unparalleled success for the past eight years.

Since joining the field, Beatty has found the work extremely satisfying. Mediation, she says, is the process of getting two disputing sides to reach an agreement. Mediation is the most common method of dispute resolution in divorce cases, and has been used effectively in other family-related issues that are brought before a court.

Her work as the impartial third party is to ensure the disputing sides get a chance to air their views and reach an agreeable solution. In any mediation case, Beatty finds that the parties are usually adversarial to each other at the beginning. Psychology and social work have been Theresa Beatty's calling since she was young. She attended Northern Arizona University for a Bachelor's degree in Psychology (graduated in 1976) and followed up with a Master of Social Work degree from Arizona State University in 1979. Her first stint in the field was at the State of Georgia's Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse from 1979 to 1992. She took a break, coming back in 1999 to volunteer as a Guardian Ad Litem in Florida, a job that finally gave way to her work in family mediation.
