ATLANTA - Taylor Morrison, a national homebuilder and developer, presented a $4,198 donation to The Drake House, a local homelessness outreach organization, in early January.
The Drake House is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to assisting the growing number of homeless women and children in North Fulton County. The organization’s goal is to assist families in becoming more financially stable contributing members of the community through education and empowerment while keeping the family unit intact. The Drake House offers private, fully furnished apartments, weekly life-skills classes, career counseling and after-school programming to single mothers, annually serving approximately 40 families and 80 children.
With more than 10,000 people in Atlanta experiencing homelessness on any given night, the founders of The Drake House knew that help was needed. In 2006, The Drake House opened their doors in honor of Roswell native, Mary Drake, a local advocate for families and individuals living on the edge. Emergency short-term housing is offered immediately to those in need. Professional staffers and trained mentors assist families with their transition into permanent housing with budget mentoring support for a greater chance of long-term success.
“Working in the home building industry, Taylor Morrison realizes how important having a home is to any family,” said Shawn Cate, president of Taylor Morrison’s Atlanta division. “We sympathize greatly with families affected by homelessness and we decided this holiday season to give back to a great cause that is dear to our hearts, finding homes for those who need it most.”
Taylor Morrison raised The Drake House funds through a holiday party in early December. The Casino Royale themed event allowed attendees to purchase “chips” to play casino games such as Craps, Texas Hold’em Poker, Blackjack and Roulette. The proceeds from the event were donated to The Drake House. This is the second year that Taylor Morrison’s Atlanta division has donated money from its holiday celebration to a local charity.
Taylor Morrison’s Atlanta division has also been involved with charity work with HomeAid Atlanta, a nonprofit organization that builds and renovates housing facilities for the homeless in the metro Atlanta area. Taylor Morrison employees assisted in housing demolition work for the HomeAid construction of The Drake House. Additionally, the division has donated to North Fulton Community Charities within the last year to assist in combating Atlanta homelessness and hunger.
