Greenwood, Mississippi, USA, August 27, 2018: Mr. Curtis Maddox, the patriarch of the Maddox Family of Mississippi, passed away in peace on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. He was 83. His demise is mourned by his family, and famous personalities across the country.

A homegoing service was held on August 25, 2018 in Norfolk, VA, at the Second Cavalry Baptist Church. He was entombed on August 26 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, VA after a proper Eulogy and Celebration of Life.

A noted personality, Mr. Maddox was born to Willie and Elnora Henderson Maddox in 1935 in Greenwood, Mississippi. ?Uncle Curtis was an influencer, the architect of his prosperous life (against all odds) and a true conqueror in his own right,? said Felecia Phillips Curtis, Maddox family spokesperson. One of 8 kids, he grew up to become a Mississippi Valley State University baccalaureate and earned his Master?s degree from Indiana State University. From 1965 ? 1967, he was the coach of the Mississippi Valley State University football team and then from 1968 ? 1971 of the Norfolk State University football team. He was the backbone of strength and inspiration for many. His contributions helped him to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Norfolk State University Athletics, Southwestern Athletic Conference, Mississippi Valley State University and Broad Street High School.

Me Maddox served as the CEO and President of Curtron General Contractors, Inc and Vice President for Operations at NSU (Norfolk State University). Despite an amputation of leg in his prime, Curt went on to achieve. He was a member of numerous organizations, such as the Eureka Club of Portsmouth, VA and 200+ Men, Inc. He became a devoted and dedicated member of the Second Cavalry Baptist Church.

He was a sponge for his mother?s wisdom and loved his wife, Perlean Maddox, who graced his life with honor until his eternal rest. His legacy will survive through Rhonda and Lamont Maddox, whom he fathered, loved and nurtured, and through thousands of others he touched and inspired in his life?s journey.

He was an man of valor, and his road map to success is detailed in his book, ?Learning to Live?. ?Uncle Curtis was also a family man, he was humorous beyond words and he represented The Maddox family well,? said Phillips Curtis.

His death is mourned by noted actor Morgan Freeman who, when he was alive, said that he considers Mr. Maddox a part of his family and their friendship has lasted for a long time. Dr. Rod Paige appreciated his firm determination, resoluteness and tireless approach to life.

His motto to beat the biggest challenges of life can be summed up in one of his quotes from his book, ?Get what you can, can what you get and sit on a can.?
