The Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) has been accredited for the next seven years by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM).

ACAOM is a specialized national agency that offers accreditation to programs in the Master’s level in the field of acupuncture and Oriental medicine. By establishing policies that govern the accreditation process for these programs, the Commission maintains and fosters standards to ensure that institutions and colleges are fully capable of producing educated and well-prepared healthcare professionals. That is a task SCU is well-equipped to meet.

The university’s First-Professional Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine program is also widely recognized for being one of the first to receive professional accreditation from the ACAOM. Today, the University, prepares its students for the healthcare system through research programs, clinical experiences and scholarship.

“We are pleased to receive accreditation from the ACAOM,” said the SCU’s President and CEO, John Scaringe, DC, EdD. The accreditation is reflective of the hard work and commitment of the university’s staff and faculty to give students the education they need to contribute positive change in the field of public health. He adds that the accreditation for the Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine program serves as an “inspiration to SCU to continue to pursue its vision of being recognized as a premier institution in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine education and integrative healthcare.”

Affirmation of the SCU’s DACM program will continue through to 2025 and is in line with the university’s missions, goals, and program objectives. SCU looks forward to becoming a part of the ACAOM community for years to come and takes the accreditation as further opportunity to build a supportive and practical training environment to create healthcare professionals who demonstrate compassion and competence in equal measure.

The accreditation is just a confirmation of SCU role in producing healthcare professionals who put care, competence and integration at the core of their practice. With a hundred years of commitment and experience, it is an excellent place to prepare students for a rewarding and successful career in the sector, the demands for which are increase with awareness!
