Induction of a robust traffic incident management system to make Highways Safer
Rash and careless driving many times result in several unavoidable emergencies which could often be mitigated with the correct solutions. In order to ensure a safer and a much more sound travel experience for the highway commuters, the National Highways Authority of India is planning on the implementation of traffic incident management systems across the stretch of the National Highways in India.

The entire work and operation of the traffic incident management system are under the aegis of Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, CGM (Road and Highway Operations Division), NHAI. Installation of this sort of system is set to ensure real-time monitoring of the traffic issues along with any kind of emergencies that the commuters might face. This initiative is going to start off along the stretch of 11,000 km across the national highways in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. These stretches would be ready to combat any kind of emergencies (contingencies) that the commuters might face during their highway journey.

Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, is on the journey to transform the National highways of India. He took measures which are both functional and aesthetic in nature. His vision is to integrate technology into the highway operations, which will ensure transparency and in turn makes the system robust. The incident management system is a part of the automated highway systems and will streamline the highway maintenance and operations. This will integrate several ambulances, surveillance vehicles and tow cranes at regular intervals. All these services are going to be controlled by the regional command centre for a swift response to any kind of emergencies.

This initiative will reduce accidents and casualties on the national highways and will immediately help people on the spot. The integration of top-notch IT and technologies in the systems will enhance the pace of the work processes. The project has already started in two of the states in India (Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh).
The services include
 One ?two patient? ambulance for every 40-45 km stretch
 One ?four patient? ambulance for every 100 km stretch
 The system will deploy a 24x7 surveillance vehicle on the stretch of the highway to cater any emergencies that commuters face.
 Assigned vehicles will patrol their respective stretches at least once every four hours.

The consistent upgrades and initiatives that are being implemented by the National Highways Authority of India for enhancing and improving highway operations are crucial. Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, CGM (Road and Highway Operations Division), NHAI along with Mr Deepak Kumar, Chairman (NHAI) is employing new ways to enhance the highway maintenance and highway operations all across India.
