Jindal Global University hosts ISCEA Ptak Global Supply Chain Competition 2017

New Delhi, 15th November 2017: The Centre of Supply Chain and Logistics Management (CSCLM) at Jindal Global Business School of OP Jindal Global University hosted the ISCEA Ptak Case Competition 2017 - India Global Rounds on Sunday, 12-November, 2017. The Centre and the University were selected after a tough bidding round.

The Ptak Prize Global Case Competition brings together students and young professionals from around the world to compete in the Ptak Prize Global Supply Chain Case Competition. The International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA) awards annually the coveted Ptak Prize for Supply Chain Excellence in the name of Carol Ptak. Carol, currently a partner with the Demand Driven Institute and the Distinguished Executive in Residence, Pacific Lutheran University, is the originator of the concept of demand driven manufacturing, and is a leading authority in ERP and Supply Chain tools.

The inaugural session witnessed Dean Professor (Dr.) Tapan Kumar Panda, welcoming the competitor teams, jury and the participants. He evidenced on how ?technologies of the future are likely to aid agile and sustainable chains that increase the efficiency of the supply chain networks?. Professor (Dr.) Prem Vrat, Pro-Chancellor, Professor of Eminence and Chief Mentor, NORTHCAP University (formerly ITM University), Gurgaon, Haryana, delivered the Keynote Address giving useful insights about ?the multifaceted emerging fourth revolution Industrie4.0?. He pointed out ?embedded system production technologies and smart production processes are likely to pave the way to a new technological age which will radically transform industry and production value chains and business models?.

Professor Vrat revealed through numerous examples, such as ?Wearable Devices, Robotics, 3D printing, if employed in India to be of immense benefits through the Make in India initiative of the Government of India?. He also mentioned that ?it is high time that we rethink about upgrading the skill levels and hence the curriculum levels?.

The final session witnessed a concise lecture by Dr. Krishan K. Batra, President and CEO, Institute of Supply Management (India) on current imposing topic of ?The Power of a Blockchain enabled Supply Chain\". This was very well explained by Dr. K. K. Batra who has diverse experience of 4 decades in the field of Technology & SCM. He said, ?Blockchain, although relatively early in its existence, has the potential to help digitize our supply chains. Its role is to automate transactions, ensure traceability, and address cybersecurity?. Dr. Batra presided over the announcements of the winners along with certification handing ceremony.

Distinguished industry professionals in the supply chain industry, faculty members and students of Jindal Global Business School along with the participating students of the case competition attended the session.

The Ptak Prize competition for the India Rounds started in early September 2017 and saw over 77 teams participate in India rounds from different colleges. Preliminary screening is done by the case solution submissions by the elite jury of the India Qualifier Online Rounds had Mr. Sandeep Chatterjee, Deloitte India, Mr. Hrishi Rajadhyaksha, Camelot ITLab Inc., UK and Mr. Pranjal Phukan of Brahmaputra Cracker & Polymer Ltd., initially narrowed down on the India Qualifiers, few weeks back.

The India Live Finals comprised of the tough presentation round by 6 teams who participated from all over India at CSCLM, Jindal Global Business School, Sonipat. The six teams were from IIM Bangalore, IIM Kashipur, NMIMS (Mumbai), SIOM (Nashik), NITIE (Mumbai), IIM Lucknow and IIT Delhi.

The poised panel of judges comprised of industry and academicians and included Mr. Sandeep Chatterjee, Deloitte India and Advisory Board Chairman of International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA) India, Mr. Purushottam Khandelwal, BOSCH India, Mr. Abhishek P Rao (APR), Group Director-Varuna Integrated Logistics, Gurgaon, Professor (Dr.) Krishan K. Pandey and Program Director of Data Analytics and Professor (Dr.) Saroj Koul Executive Director, Centre of Supply Chain & Logistics Management at Jindal Global Business School.

Of these Indian Finalist Teams, NITIE (Mumbai) could not make their presence for the Indian Final Rounds due to their preferences. NITIE (Mumbai) was the winner of the Global round of this competition in year 2014 and 2015. Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (Team The Northerners) finally won the India Crown at the finals in Sonipat. The team comprised of Suryansh Srivastava, Ruturajsinh Rana and Swarnim Solanki. They will be felicitated at SCTechShow2018 with a team prize of US $ 1000 cash, Gold Medallions at the ISCEA Ptak Prize Awards function scheduled in February 2018. Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management (Nashik) bagged the 2nd spot in the India Rounds. Team members were Mr. Vikram Kumar M.D. and Ms. Anuradha Sharma and win Silver Medals. All the 5 participants from the two top India teams get a Free Global Online Training and Certification as Certified Supply Chain Analyst each worth US $1100.

The unique event was supported by Octaphi-The Operations Management Club at JGBS and the ISCEA Campus Ambassador at JGU under the aegis of the CSCLM. The Centre aims to achieve excellence in research and education by offering research driven consultancy and analyzing implementations that result in major savings and benchmarking of best practices in organizations. The research is practical, impartial and has \'real world\' application based on best practice. Through commercial and grant-funded activities, CSCLM coordinates diverse skills and resources to develop and apply knowledge for the benefit of industry, government and community organizations.
