The month-long Simhastha Kumbh Mela, largest congregation of Hindus began in Ujjain with the arrival of Juna Akhara for the royal bath on the banks of Kshipra river for the holy dip.
A large number of people from different corners of the country have converged in the holy city for the Simhastha Mela, held every 12 years at Ujjain, which is also the abode of Lord Mahakaleshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlings in the country. Ujjain is fully geared up to host the month-long Kumbh Mela, during which over 5 crore people including seers are expected to visit the holy city.
?Over 5 crore pilgrims visited Ujjain and other holy places during the fair, for which complete waste management system designed by Eco Pro Environmetal Services have been made. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has declared that it will be a ?Green Simhastha?.
The Senior consultants from Eco Pro Environmental Services Mr. Asad Warsi and Mr Ajay Jain said that UMC has decided to spread the message of Swachh Bharat Mission from Simhastha 2016 to the entire world as this event is attended and watched nationally and internationally. EcoPro Environmental Services Indore is the only agency from Madhya Pradesh empanelled with Swachh Bharat Mission as consultant for Solid Waste Management. Accordingly to maintain the cleanliness in entire Mela area UMC has engaged two agencies of national and international repute employing a workforce of 5000 sanitary workers, properly dressed and equipped to clean the entire Mela area and for cleaning of ghats and maintaining hygienic conditions around ghat, more than 50 ultramodern equipments are used for daily cleaning and washing of entire ghat area.
To keep river water free from all the floating matter, a special team of 150 people on 100 boats works round the clock for picking up all the floatables in the river and keep river free from all the floating matters. For proper collection & transportation of municipal waste more than 150 equipments and vehicles are utilized and the complete waste from Mela area is collected & transported to MSW processing facility on daily basis. To make the Mela area free from mosquitoes and flies, two specialized agencies are deployed for pest control utilities during the entire month.
Authorities from Urban Development have praised the waste management system designed by Eco Pro Environmental Services Indore and have said that this can be replicated in other cities and mass gatherings.
