Cameroon Government?s new Immigration Policy poses threat to the migrant nurses who are under the bracket of minimum pay threshold of ?35,000.
London, 24 December, 2015:
The new stormy Immigration laws will spark the NHS staffing crisis which will axe over 35,000 overseas nurses in one go. These nurses will have to make the unplanned exit from their current employment as they do not meet the criteria of earning ?35,000.
The immigration drive which is seen as the conscious effort of Cameroon government to save the country from burgeoning migration has put pressure on the authorities like NHS which are already battling the shortage of staff. It is reported that the country is in serious need of medical staff at the moment. Britain is currently housing 65% ageing population which is seen as the major challenge for government for the coming years. Long term projections by the official authorities have indicated towards the further increase in this number.
Critics are warning to exempt nurses from this draconian new law at the time when more and more will be needed to cope with an aging population and the devastating affects of social care cuts. NHS spent millions in hiring these overseas nurses. Due to the cuts in the number of overseas nurses, the agencies have to rely on temporary and less skilled staff. This will also add to their budget.
As per the reports of RCN, 90% of the nurses who are hired from outside Europe will not reach this ?35,000 within six years. The cut-off date for the new rules was set at 2011, meaning the first batch of nurses earning less will be sent home in 2017. The new immigration rules on recruiting staff will hit the nurses from China, India, Philippines, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and America.
