New Delhi 2017: When three attempts to conceive failed, Parul and Joy (names changed) had almost given up hope of having a baby ever. However, they were recommended the Bourn Hall Fertility Centre and approached Dr. Aradhana Kalra Dawar, Sr. Consultant with renewed hope. The experts at the centre successfully helped the conception and Parul is now nine weeks pregnant with twins. The couple now eagerly awaits the moment to bring them into their world.

Reduced ovarian reserve in Parul and negligible sperm count in Joy were responsible for the couple not able to conceive for several months after marriage. They were recommended Assisted Reproduction Therapy (ART) to help them conceive through in-vitro fertilization.
At Bourn Hall Fertility Centre, the fertility experts examined their case and decided to apply a slightly different approach towards IVF. This involved a comprehensive analysis of the couple?s condition and identifying the root causes of their infertility, followed by a holistic treatment module.

With Parul being at an advanced age, and the non-ideal ovarian reserve rendered poor response to ovarian stimulation in the previous IVF cycles conducted. At Bourn Hall Fertility Centre, she underwent treatment to improve the reproductive processes.

Dr Aradhana Kalra Dawar, Senior IVF Consultant at Bourn Hall Fertility Centre explained, ?We induced ovarian stimulation in Parul through drugs and hormones to help her produce excellent quality eggs. Concurrently, treatment to improve her endometrial lining was also conducted at the centre. A healthy endometrial lining of the uterus is highly necessary for a healthy pregnancy as a fertilized egg needs the lining of the uterus to be of a certain thickness to implant and begin growing. The treatment helped us to get two blastocyst transfers and this resulted in conception of twins.?

Blastocyst transfer is a process in which embryos are cultured in the laboratory to the blastocyst stage before being fertilized. Embryos can be cultured up to a period of five days, until they become blastocysts. At this stage, chances of being able to select a healthy embryo are better. In the earlier IVF cycles undergone by the couple, day three embryo transfers were done. However, at Bourn Hall Fertility Centre, the IVF experts conducted blastocyst transfers on day five, thus overcoming the odds for a successful outcome.
Simultaneously, the experts were also addressing the infertility issues in Joy. Since Joy had a low sperm count, IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) was performed to extract a healthy sperm and fertilize the blastocyst.

Bourn Hall Fertility Centre carries out the ICSI procedure with a technology termed ?Sperm-Slow technique?, also known as PICSI (Physiological ICSI). With this technique, experts can evaluate the viability of sperms along with motility and morphology radically improving the chances of IVF success.

?At Bourn Hall Fertility Centre, we take immense pride in the fact that we are able to successfully help many couples dealing with infertility; even the many of the difficult cases that have failed to find help elsewhere have succeeded in tasting parental bliss with our help. We wish Parul and Joy and their yet to be born twins luck and happiness,? adds Dr David Robertson, Group Medical Director, Bourn Hall Fertility Centre.
?We are delighted that we have finally succeeded in conceiving. The journey was very difficult and we faced several disappointments on the way. But we are immensely thankful to doctors at Bourn Hall Fertility Centre for their help and motivation. We owe them parenthood?, say Parul and Joy.
