Uttrakahand: The Ultimate Uttarakhand Himalayan MTB Challenge is one of the longest mountain bike race in Asia which is organized annually by Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) with ADB assisted Infrastructure Development Investment Program for Tourism (IDIPT), Govt. of Uttarakhand & under the technical support of Cycling Federation of India (CFI) with an objective of promoting adventure tourism & mountain biking in Uttarakhand.
The grand opening of the 3rd season of the event was done by Chief Guest Sh. Sanjeev Arya, MLA-Nainital and Guest of Honour, Sh. D. Senthil Pandayan, Commissioner ?Kumaon in the august presence of Sh. Deepak Rawat, DM-Nainital, Sh. Dhiraj S Garbyal, MD-KMVN & Sh. Janmejay Prabhakar, SSP-Nainital on 07th April 2017 at Nainital.
Starting from Nainital on 8th April 2017, the race will cover a total distance of 884 kms in 7 biking days passing through 10 districts of Nainital, Almora, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Uttarkashi (Chinyalisaur) with finish at Dehradun (Mussoorie) on 15th April 2017.
The qualifying race of the event held at Nainital on 07th April 2017 was participated by total 86 elite cyclists (National -64 and International -22 including 06 international women riders), which included participants from 16 countries Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, USA, Greece, Portugal, Chili, Columbia,Canada, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kazakhstan& India (12 states, Indian Army, BSF and SSB).
Top 50 Male and 06 Female riders selected in the qualifying round were given bibs by the Chief Guest during the opening ceremony held at Nainital on 07th April 2017. A total prize money of Rs. 10 Lakhs will be awarded for overall and stage winners.
For promoting adventure tourism in the state, registration for participation was kept free. All boarding & lodging to participants during the event will be provided complimentary by the tourism department. The event is being organised with full support of respective District administration, Police Department, Health Department, Transport Department, Sports Department, Education Department, Prantiya Raksha Dal, Scout & Guide, Nagar Palika and Hotel Association Nainital & Mussoorie.
Organization of such kind of events will definitely help in establishing Uttarakhand as one of the most sought after destination for Mountain Biking in International arena.
