In the new episode of Recovery ReLOVution, the shows host, Dr. Gala Gorman, challenges listeners to focus on their own healing. Its not just the addict that needs to recover. Families of addicts need to recover as well. Most Recovery Stakeholders are so focused on helping their addicted loved one find their way to recovery that they have set their own needs aside.

In this episode, listeners will:

-Prioritize their own healing and well-being

-Relinquish control over their addicted loved ones actions

-Accept that dealing with addicts is traumatizing and find out how to get help

As Gorman says, one of the things that gets in the way of healing is trauma. Victims of trauma dont always know theyve been traumatized. Thats why its important to seek professional help when trying to care for an addict.

Gorman refers to a recent article from Psychology Today which seeks to educate readers about the effect of long-term traumas. One painful identification people make when they are victims of abuse occurs when they internalize their aggressor. In other words, they may start to identify with the person who hurt them the most, sometimes feeling protective or taking on their destructive point of view toward themselves.

Described in the article is The concept of the critical inner voice, which is a negative self-perception that we carry with us in our minds. All of us possess this inner critic, but those of us who are traumatized may experience this voice as a deeply destructive and terrifying enemy whose attacks on us can feel crippling and constant and can lead to even life-threatening self-destructive behavior.

Recovery Stakeholders should be aware of potential traumas and seek professional advice. There are also community resources available for families of addicts to get advice and support.

The Recovery ReLOVution show was created with the aim in mind to help family and friends of addicts restore peace and sanity to their world. Listeners now have an alternative to doing the same thing expecting a different result the definition of insanity.

The show urges listeners to stretch themselves. The shows tagline reflects this. Love the Addict. Outsmart the Addiction. Listeners, primarily Recovery Stakeholders, will likely find a particular interest since its difficult to avoid shaming their addict loved one.

When asked why she created the show, Gorman said, Shaming just adds fuel to addictions fire. There is an alternative.

The shows host, Dr. Gala Gorman, is a holistic life coach and minister. She is the author of the Spiritual ApproachTM Series of books focused on practical spirituality. As an entrepreneur mediator, publisher and, formerly, accounting firm partner, her experiences helped shape the creation of the show. As a change facilitator, she ignites transformation in businesses, families, students, clients and, especially, within herself.

Gorman has hopes that the show will help Recovery Stakeholders learn to set and hold effective boundaries to ignite positive change in themselves and their loved one who is struggling with addiction.
