Thousands like-minded people gathered at Jantar Mantar to support AIWUP in their endeavor to raise voice against crime, discrimination and inequality that women in general face in the society.
New Delhi, December 16, 2016: According to National Crime Records Bureau, a crime against women is recorded in every 1.7 minutes in the country. The violence against women is growing significantly year after year, while the justice delivery mechanism has failed miserably. With the view of the degrading condition of a woman in society, ALL INDIA WOMEN UNITED PARTY (AIWUP) organized a public meeting at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, inviting all who are saddened by the women’s plight in India.
The public meeting was attended by thousands of men and women from all walks of life, including social activists, thinkers, lawyers and advocates of women rights. AIWUP, India’s first all-women national political party, launches a crusade to vocal women’s issues and garner public support so that a discrimination-free society can be created where women can lead a dignified life. The day of the event also coincides with the horrible Nirbhaya Rape case took place four years ago. The justice in the case is still pending and AIWUP vows to extend its support to all victims or rape, molestation, sexual harassment and other heinous crimes against women.
Speaking on the occasion, the Party President, Nasim Bano, said, “Our party will fight against the injustice that half of the population goes through in one or other manner. Whenever a woman will seek our help, AIWUP will leave no stone unturned to fight for her rights.” From acid attacks to dowry cases, women are subjected to different kinds of cognizable crimes. This is the reason why the General Secretary of AIWUP, Lakshmi Krishnan believes, “Women have to come forward to fight for their own rights. We are offering them a platform to raise their voice to be heard and draw the attention of the policymakers of this country.”
The public meeting was attended by a large number of men as well who believed that equality is an essential criterion for a healthy societal growth. Vice President of AIWUP, Advocate Meena reiterated their party’s objective of raising women issues and said, “We are going to organize public meetings, workshops, awareness campaigns in other parts of the country as well from time to time. We are tireless until each single woman is safe in this country.”
