Martin Valko, Principal of Apex Construction Management, Completes Passive House Institute US Training

Apex Construction Management is pleased to announce their Principal, Martin Valko, completed Passive House Institute US training, earning him the title of Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC). After his first four weeks of training, Valko moved on to a one-week crash course in New York City and completed a written exam.
After taking the five weeks of coursework, Valko was then tasked with designing a bed and breakfast model for Lake Tahoe, California, based on the Passive House Institute requirements. The exact parameters of the build are extremely precise and must leave a minimal environmental footprint. The overall design should include a super-tight building envelope and high-performance windows and mechanicals designed to meet the needs of the surrounding climate.
In addition to these factors, the building and windows must be positioned appropriately to make the ultimate use of solar energy. Using the latest software in the industry, Wufi Passive, Valko was able to collect the necessary data to create the best design. This data helped him determine the total energy demand and consumption so he could optimize the home for the local climate, maintaining the ultimate indoor comfort. He also implemented renewable energy, including PV Panels so the home qualified as a Zero Energy home.
