The Broadway musical Waitress has reached a milestone that other Broadway shows can only dream about ?it joined the elite millionaires' club at the Broadway box office. The feel good musical is quickly shaping up to dominate the stage this summer as the tourist season's audiences are sure to propel tickets sales even higher. Fans are so enthralled with the show that Forbes has dubbed it one of the Best New Musicals That Arent Hamilton.
The lead in the show is Jessie Mueller, who won her first Tony Award two years ago while in the title role of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. According to critics, Muellers performance outshines even the script, which some critics say is cutsie. Mueller plays Jenna, a waitress at a roadside diner who barely makes enough money to pay her bills and keep her abusive husband satisfied. When she discovers that shes pregnant by her not-so-nice husband, she enters a pie baking contest to try and win the $20,000 prize, which would allow her to escape the abuse.

The friends are Becky, a salty, entertaining woman played by Keala Settle, and a nave waitress named Dawn. Even the diner boss and cook, who is gruffy and surely, adds a welcomed dimension to the plot.
