On May 5 and 6, the actors involved in understanding Acquired Brain Injuries and helping their victims, will gather in Hamilton, to advance research leading to better care for brain injury victims. With over 1.4 million Canadians living with an acquired brain injury, or close to 4% of the population, according to the Brain Injury Association of Canada, it can be considered a silent epidemic. In this context, finding the proper care and support following an accident or injury is essential, and why Toronto brain injury law firm, Himelfarb Proszanski, announces it will continue supporting research in this area, through platinum sponsorship of the 2016 ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) Conference in Hamilton.

All physical injuries are traumatic, but there are perhaps none more frightening than those which affect the brain. While the body can heal and disabilities can be overcome, a person's brain forms the basis of who they are; traumatic brain injury doesn€™t just impact upon people's basic faculties, but upon their perceptions, moods, memories, and most upsettingly of all: their personalities.

This year€™s conference theme is 'GAINING CONTROL €“ Innovative Approaches to Self-Regulation in Mood and Behaviour€™, with the aim of enhancing understanding of this complex area, and allow better care and more appropriate support to be provided for all of Canada€™s brain injury patients. Among other current topics, this year's conference will showcase developments in brain injury rehabilitation for children and female war veterans.

160,000 Canadians sustain brain injuries each year and, unfortunately, incident rates are rising (1.). "Brain injuries can arise from surprisingly minor incidents, with devastating consequences", comments David Himelfarb, brain injury lawyer and Managing Partner of Himelfarb Proszanski. "Something that seems insignificant to begin with can quickly escalate, and without the proper medical and legal care and support, a terrible situation can become even worse."

"Every month Himelfarb Proszanski [helps victims of accidents who have suffered brain injuries](http://www.himpro.ca/services/brain-injury-lawyer/) through no fault of their own €“ whether in a collision, assault, industrial incident, sporting accident, or just a simple slip and fall. Every case is different, but the single guarantee is that they will be complex. Still so little is known about how the brain works, and it can be shattering to see just how much impact a seemingly trivial episode can have upon a life; this is why we continue to support the Hamilton ABI Conference every year."

"There is so much still to learn about brain injury care", concludes Mr. Himelfarb. "If our sponsorship can aid that cause then we€™re delighted to be able to do our small part to help."
