Rising tennis star, Eugenie Bouchard, recently filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Tennis Association alleging a slip and fall accident. The lawsuit alleges that owners of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, where the U.S. Open was being held, were negligent in cleaning the locker room. After competing in a tournament, Bouchard returned to the locker room where she slipped and fell, slamming her head against a hard surface floor. A federal lawsuit was filed in a Brooklyn U.S. District Court for unspecified monetary damages for severe injuries, pain and suffering, and economic loss.

Bouchard's fall, caused by a slippery substance on the floor, resulted in a concussion and serious head injury for the tennis star. She contends that her injuries were caused solely by negligent actions and careless disregard of owners and staff of the well-known tennis center. Chris Widmaier, a spokesman for the USTA declined to comment. He stated that the USTA has a long-standing policy that discourages discussions on any ongoing litigation. As a result of her injuries, Bouchard was forced to withdraw from the U.S. Open and other upcoming tournaments in Japan and China.

Eugenie Bouchard, a 21-year-old Canadian tennis player, has become one of tennis' newest cover girls. Since winning the Wimbledon Junior Title in 2012, she has made rapid advancements on the national tennis circuit. In 2014, she reached the semifinals at both the Australian and French Opens. After those victories, she won the Wimbledon final which launched her into the No. 7-ranking, the highest ever for a Canadian player.

Bouchard claims that her No. 7 world ranking has dropped by at least 13 spots since she suffered the slip and fall injury at the U.S. Open in New York. She believes that her ranking will continue to decline until her head injuries are completely healed, but future tournaments are being planned. According to Cary Wintroub, a well-known Illinois premises liability lawyer, injuries commonly occur with slip and fall accidents. Property owners need to make sure that they do not create or ignore dangerous situations that can result in injuries."
