National Workshop on Renewable Energy Technology Begins at OPJU

Keeping in view the 21st Century energy challenges, Department of Mechanical Engineering, OP Jindal University, Raigah is organizing a National Level Workshop on ?Recent Developments in Renewable Energy Technology? from 30th Nov to 5th December 2015, in collaboration with CREDA, Raipur and Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (CGCOST), Raipur. The workshop was inaugurated by President of Jindal Power Ltd, Tamnar Mr. Sanjeev Prasad in the august presence of guests of honour Dr M. Ali (VP Solar Energy Society of India and the Director-Membership), Institution of Engineers, Dr B. Subidhi (NIT, Rourkela), Mr. Munish Agarwal (Registrar-OPJU) and Dr. R. D. Patidar (Director-OPJIT).

Welcoming the guests and participants Dr Patidar said that energy is the backbone of development of any country and it is the need of the hour to focus on renewable energy sources and technologies along with traditional energy sources. As OP Jindal University is committed to contribute towards development of nation and society, organization of this workshop is a step towards social responsibility. Dr. Ravi Kumar, the convener of program stated the objectives of the workshop and shared the details of six days programme. Dr Ravi informed that the scientists from across the country will deliver lectures and conduct training sessions on "Renewable Energy Technology" . The main areas of talks will be Overview of Indian Solar Industry ?Growth and Challenges, Solar Energy Technology Overview, Solar Radiation Overview, Solar PV Technology Overview, Battery Storage Technology Overview, Overview of Electronics and BoS, Off-grid System Design and component sizing, Grid connected PV systems design, System Protection & Cable Sizing, Site Assessments & Planning and many more. Dr. S. M. Ali (Vice President, Solar Energy Society of India and Director -membership) Institution of Engineers, Dr. D.K. Khatod, IIT Roorkee, Dr. S. K. Pratihar (NIT, Rourkela), Dr B. Subidhi (NIT, Rourkela), Dr. Snehashish Mishra (KIIT University, Bhubaneswar), Dr Paresh Kale (NIT, Rourkela), Rajiv Gyani (CREDA, Raipur), Dr Prabhat Kumar Ray (NIT, Rourkela), D. Barua (GSES) , Nishant Verma (GSES), and other invited scientists will deliver lectures and provide necessary training to the participants.

The Registrar of University Munish Agarwal addressed the participants and said that the climate on Earth is changing very quickly and only Renewable Energy Technology will be able to control it. Dr Mali, Director (membership) Institution of Engineers, India said that the vision of "Our home, our power" can be fulfilled only with the help of renewable energy and especially, solar energy. He also said that looking at the geographical condition and transportation connectivity of Raigarh we have discussed with university management and proposed to establish Local Centre of Institution of Engineers at OP Jindal University. Dr B. Subidhi underlined the importance of Photo Voltaic energy.
The Chief Guest Mr Sanjeev Prasad made an effective presentation on ?The Present Scenario Energy Production, Consumption and the Need? and said that today's solar energy growth rate is 54.82%, which is targeted to be 100% by 2022 . Solar energy is the best option to achieve the vision of "Power for All." During the opening ceremony of the workshop, along with 80 participants from various states institutions, faculty members of OPJU were also present. At the end, Mr S. Chakrabarty, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department proposed vote of thank to all.
