Shallu Jindal?s Twitter profile depicts the many roles she plays with ?lan in her life ? Kuchipudi danseuse, co-chairperson at of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) Foundation, chairperson National Bal Bhawan, vice president @FFOIndia, author, interior designer apart from being a home maker and parent! ?Being a woman and mother is the first instinct that comes to me. I am a mother first more than anything else. I guess that?s also one of the reasons why you put it right in the end (in the Twitter profile). It is so ingrained in you that you don?t need to announce it to the world. Being a mother is the tough job,? says Shallu, wife of industrialist and politician Naveen Jindal.
The visit to the Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University in Masab Tank is special to Shallu; she was in Hyderabad to promote tribal art and crafts from India. As part of ?Swayam Shilp?, an initiative of the JSPL Foundation, a 10-day Dhokra workshop for the students is being held by master craftsman Purnachandra Pradhan. The artefacts created out of Dhokra art are neatly arranged on the table as she attends a session where the artist explains the basics of the art. She recalls the way she discovered Dhokra art as a newly-married bride. ?We had shifted to Raigarh and had a lot of free time. I began to explore Chattisgarh and discovered a place called Ektal where everybody practices Dhokra art. The delightful metal creations are inspired from mythology and day-to-day life,? she explains. The Foundation had organised its first workshop during August in Delhi before coming to Hyderabad.

Shallu?s work keeps her on her toes on all the time. Call her a superwoman and she laughs. ?I am grateful to God that he gave me ability to be able to do all this. I believe in multi-tasking; most women multi-task beautifully. Whatever I do, I give my whole attention. I believe in more of quality time than quantity time,? she states. Her Twitter posts also reveal her spiritual side. ?We have Vedanta classes every week in my house. The sessions are open to everyone, so we have quite a few women attending it. We also hold Bhagavad Gita sessions,? she elaborates.

The Bhagavad Gita has been the guiding force in her life. ?One is never too young to approach the Gita. Its philosophy is relevant even today. It keeps you balanced and helps you get answers to questions that may be plaguing you. Keep doing good action and the Universe will conspire to give you the best,? she adds.
On the ?miracles? she experienced in her life, Shallu states, ?I met my gurus Raja and Radha Reddy by chance 14 years ago. I think I got married to Naveen (Naveen Jindal) because of some plan. I love working with children that?s how I authored my first book ? India An Alphabets Ride. It is basically for children and their parents and grandparents can also read it to their wards.?
Shallu has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the seven summits. ?That was to raise awareness for cancer. I also wanted a personal challenge because climbing a mountain teaches you many things. It mainly teaches you to live for the moment.? She complains though of not being able to travel more and spend more time with her family. ?I believe God gives from one hand and takes from the other. You must be balanced and be happy with whatever is given,? she states on a philosophical note.
